Parallel Visions runs from 4th October to 26th October 2013 at the Gordon Gallery. Gallery hours are Tue – Sat, 10am – 5pm & by appointment, admission free and the gallery has disability access.
Parallel Visions is an exhibition of work by Past Pupils of St. Columb’s College, Derry who are recognised as practising artists using a variety of media in both two and three dimensions. This work will be displayed alongside ‘A’ Level artwork produced by sixth form students attending the College in 2012/2013.
The exhibition will be officially opened at 6:45pm by Professor Declan McGonagle, Director of The National College of Art & Design, with contributions from Enda Rainey, President of the Past Pupils’ Union and Shona McCarthy, CEO Culture Co. 2013 Ltd.
This eclectic mix of works by past and present pupils will show to the city and the world the thriving visual education provided by St Columb’s College over the years and the public recognition of this artistic talent and will give young artists the opportunity to exhibit their artwork in a public forum along with professional artists.
Exhibitors will include the late Joe Boyle, painted; Patrick Bradley, painter, painter; Pat Cowley, painter; George Doherty, sculptor; Willie Doherty, photographer (twice nominated for the Turner Prize); Felim Egan, painter; Brian Ferran, painter; Maurice Harron, sculptor; Dessie Kelly, painter; Eamon McAteer, painter; John McCandless, painter; Philip McFadden, painter & sculptor; Malachy McGonagle, painter; Locky Morris, sculptor; the late Eamon O’Doherty, sculptor; John Sherlock, sculptor; Padraig Timoney, painter and the work of sixth form pupils from the College.
The following talks and workshops will take place during the run of the exhibition:
Oct. 10th – Philip McFadden – Cross-Border Schools Workshop, 2-4 pm
Oct. 12th – Brian Ferran – Talking about his work, 2-4 pm
Oct. 19th – Paul Moore in conversation with Willie Doherty, 2-4 pm
Oct. 26th – Maurice Harron – Community/Public Workshop, 10 am – 12 pm
There will be a fully illustrated catalogue 60pp, 36 colour plates to include statements from the artists.
